African Journals OnLine (AJOL) Full Text Access
On the 1st of May 2009, African Journals OnLine (AJOL) launched the latest version of its online service to provide access to peer-reviewed, African-published scholarly journals – www.ajol.info.
At 346 journals from 26 countries, AJOL is the world’s largest online collection of African journals, but until now, has included only tables of content, abstracts, and journal information on the website. As of the beginning of May, 60% of the 40,000 plus articles on AJOL will be available for immediate download. By the end of 2009, AJOL aims to have 100% of its growing collection fully full-text online.
The updated site and the new functionality are possible due to a close collaboration between AJOL and the Public Knowledge Project (PKP), developers of Open Journal Systems (OJS) – the open source software which powers the AJOL service. AJOL is also supported by its donor partners, INASP and the Ford Foundation.

Free Access Databases for Pharmaceutical Research
DRUG BANK
The DrugBank database is a unique bioinformatics and cheminformatics resource that combines detailed drug (i.e. chemical, pharmacological and pharmaceutical) data with comprehensive drug target (i.e. sequence, structure, and pathway) information. The database contains nearly 4800 drug entries including >1,350 FDA-approved small molecule drugs, 123 FDA-approved biotech (protein/peptide) drugs, 71 nutraceuticals and >3,243 experimental drugs. Additionally, more than 2,500 non-redundant protein (i.e. drug target) sequences are linked to these FDA approved drug entries. Each DrugCard entry contains more than 100 data fields with half of the information being devoted to drug/chemical data and the other half devoted to drug target or protein data.

Open Access Week declared for 2009
Popular global event extended over one week, October 19 – 23
To accommodate widespread global interest in the movement toward Open Access to scholarly research results, October 19 – 23, 2009 will mark the first international Open Access Week. The now-annual event, expanded from one day to a full week, presents an opportunity to broaden awareness and understanding of Open Access to research, including access policies from all types of research funders, within the international higher education community and the general public.
The following is the list of proposed programmes at Seth GL Bihani SD College of Technical Education by the Team of PSOAR
1. Seminar on "Open Access and its Utility in Pharmaceutical Education and Research"
2. Practical Classes on "Information Retrieval for Pharmaceutical Education and Research using OA Resources"
3. Promotion of OA through blogsite http://vikaspsoar.blogspot.com and search engines "Vikas PSOAR" and "Vikas PGIAR" exclusively customized for OA literature in pharmaceutical sciences and guidelines
4. Official launch of blogsite http://pharmcareer.blogspot.com for career prospects in pharmaceutical sciences.
5. Some More Events to Promote Open Access
