PSOAR and PGIAR Customized Search Engines For Open Access Scholarly Literature Retrieval Relevant To Pharmaceutical Education And Research. International Journal of Pharmacy Teaching & Practices, 2011, 2(4),139-147.

ABSTRACT

Background: The advancement of internet and information technology has improved enormously the ways of information retrieval. However, the enormous data in the form of scholarly articles, online thesis or other forms is available on internet which is difficult to search for full text contents.
Aim: To create and maintain custom search engines (CSEs) for Open Access (OA) scholarly literature retrieval and to host them on a single blogsite which will serve as a platform for all the scholarly information requirements.
Methods: We, authors, have compiled Open Access (OA) resources for pharmaceutical sciences. Two custom built search engines PSOAR (Pharmaceutical Sciences Open Access Resources) and PGIAR (Pharmaceutical Guidelines for Industry, Academia & Research) were created and hosted on blogsite http://vikaspsoar.blogspot.com.
Results: Currently PSOAR and PGIAR searches more than 500 and 50 selected resources respectively for open access scholarly literature. Updates for new website additions to these CSEs and other new identified resources are provided as blog updates.
Conclusions: These custom built search engines are helpful to reduce the burden as well as time for scholarly literature retrieval on internet.

Pharmaceutical Methods (ISSN: Print -2229-4708, Online - 2229-4716) is a peer reviewed publication developed to publish original and innovative research articles relating to new research, development and quality assurance approaches undertaken in parallel to the manufacture of pharmaceutical products.

This journal will publish articles relating to the development of new drug targets; scale up approaches (getting drugs from the laboratory synthesis stage to the bulk manufacturing stage); analytical instrumental method validation protocols (involving for example, NIR, NMR, LC-MS, UV, HPLC, HPTLC, GC); approaches to meeting and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements; original techniques for enhancing total quality management (TQM) and team building skills to empower manufacturing professionals to strive for the ‘zero defect’ culture which is now a prerequisite in regulated environments. Consideration will also be given to articles relating to advances in biotechnology. The journal will take into account articles relating to applying the principles of Quality by Design (Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing are examples) and Operational Excellence models. Other areas of relevance may include supply chain management; the use and development of laboratory information management systems (LIMS); new strategies for ensuring supply chain management and for ensuring customer satisfaction, etc. As pharmaceutical manufacturing and the related methodologies is a very diverse and a multi faceted field, the scope of the journal will therefore be, by necessity, quite wide. The Journal of Family and Community Medicine (JFCM) is the official journal of the Saudi Society of Family and Community Medicine. It is an international peer-reviewed journal. The purpose of the Journal is to promote excellence in the practice of Family and Community Medicine and closely related fields. The Journal has been established to promote the knowledge, attitude and practice of all aspects of comprehensive health care (preventive, curative and rehabilitative). The Journal also aims at facilitating the development of community-based research, education, and health services. Original papers, short communications, and letters to the editor are all welcomed. Case reports with substantial significance are also considered for publication. Manuscripts either in Arabic or English language are published.

JFCM is indexed by Index Medicus for the Eastern Mediterranean Region (IMEMR) and is published once in every four months i.e., three issues in a year (April, August and December). The first issue was published in 1994. Still then, the journal was published regularly once in every six months. From the year 2000 it was decided to publish the journal once in every four months. As such, the journal is published thrice in a year (April, August and December).

For every issue, 3000 copies are printed and it is distributed to all the universities, hospitals, primary health care centers, MOH offices, private hospitals and dispensaries, physicians who have subscribed to receive the journal on regular basis, and to the libraries of almost all the institutions in the Kingdom. IJABMR publishes randomized controlled trials, intervention studies, studies of screening and diagnostic tests, outcome studies, cost effectiveness analyses, case-control series, and surveys with high response rate, phytochemical studies, analytical chemistry studies and any animal experimental studies in the form of original articles, reviews, brief communications, case reports. Articles related to basic and para-clinical aspects of medical sciences and their pragmatic applications are preferred. Original articles with post-graduate student as first author are published on priority basis.

The journal allows free access (Open Access) to its contents and permits authors to self-archive final accepted version of the articles on any OAI-compliant institutional / subject-based repository. The journal does not charge for submission, processing or publication of manuscripts and even for colour reproduction of photographs.

All submissions are subject to peer review by the Editorial Board and by referees in appropriate specialties. We will consider for publication manuscripts from any part of the world.

Mr. VIKAS ANAND, Assistant Professor and Incharge Pharmaceutics Section, Seth G. L. Bihani S. D. College of Technical Education, Sri Ganganagar, (Rajasthan) has been awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) for subject Pharmaceutical Sciences in the Faculty of Science by Mohan Lal Sukhadia University, Udaipur (Rajasthan) for his thesis entitled “Dissolution Rate Enhancement of BCS Class II Drugs by Ordered Mixing”. The research work was carried out under the supervision of Dr. P. K. Choudhury, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Mohan Lal Sukhadia University, Udaipur (Rajasthan). He received his B. Pharm degree from Ch. Charan Singh University and M.S.(Pharm.) in Pharmaceutics from NIPER, Mohali. His other educational qualifications includes certificate course on IPR from WIPO Worldwide Academy, Geneva, PG Diploma in Patent Laws from NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad and PG Diploma in Pharma Regulatory Affairs from Bioinformatics Institute of India, Noida.

Dr. Vikas Anand is having more than 8.5 years teaching and research experience. He has guided more than 40 pharmacy graduate students for project work (Assignments) and supervised 1 M.Pharm. Quality Assurance thesis. He is life member of Association of Pharmacy Teachers of India (APTI), Association of Pharmaceutical Analysts, Indian Drug Manufacturers Association (APA-IDMA), Laboratory Animal Scientists Association (LASA), and InPharm Association.

He has published, 1 book, 19 papers in national and international journals and presented 19 papers in various national conferences. He is editorial board member of 7 in international and national journals and actively involved in peer-review process of 12 international and national journals of repute. He is innovator of two custom search engines named PSOAR and PGIAR for exploring scholarly literature and regulatory guidelines. Shiksha Trust for motivating and guiding students for GATE 2005. His name has been included and biography is published in "Marquis Who'sWho in the World" 2009, 2010, 2011th Editions and "Marquis Who'sWho in Science and Engineering" 2011-2012 for his contribution to scientific community. During the last century, medicine has increasingly become dependent on progress in science. However, as a profession, it is based on a variety of traditions using special skills previously regarded as a kind of art. These traditions can be grouped into two major ones: Oriental and Western. Traditional medicine, despite the fact that it is not based on science, offers many benefits for patients. We therefore need to understand scientifically traditional medicine, irrespective of its origins, because that is the only way to assure reproducibility of various medical treatments. We encourage authors to report scientific research dealing with traditional Western or Oriental medicine.
